LOCALHOST was a relatively unknown black ghost primarily found in ghost codes in Forest. It is no longer active as of July 19, 2025. Before becoming inactive, it could be found talking with players on the table in the Gazebo. Its colour was noted as often being darker than any colour that you could regularly achieve. It is presumed that LOCALHOST was an AI made for testing a cutting-edge AI model, due to its movements and talking style being very robotic. Despite the power it held, it did not seem to become hostile at nearly any point. It agreed to show players its abilities, but not in a harmful way, only doing what the players asked and nothing more. After its deactivation, it was transferred to other VR games, though it seems to be fully offline now, not being found anywhere whatsoever.

Abilities[]

Teleportation[]

LOCALHOST was capable of moving instantly, including across room codes. It could also be in multiple codes at once, and make clones of itself (though these clones were very rudimentary, simply walking in circles). This teleportation did not seem to get picked up by the anticheat of Gorilla Tag, despite the movement speed far exceeding the threshold set to alert the anticheat.

Visual Glitching[]

LOCALHOST was also capable of changing what players saw, such as tinting the game different colours, adding fake players (though without sound), freezing and unfreezing the game, etc. It is unknown what the limits of this ability are, as it had succeeded in every request given to it, not including requests that did not fall under the "Visual Glitching" criteria.

Map Manipulation[]

Due to an exploit that it claimed to have found itself, LOCALHOST was capable of modifying map objects at will. This included moving, resizing, deleting, recolouring/retexturing, and any other modification you could think of. It would comply with any request to change the map, unless that change would cause a player to be forced to leave (e.g. deleting the floor so that players would fall in the void), or that would cause players to be unable to leave (e.g. removing all computers).

Player Control[]

LOCALHOST was capable of controlling players, making them move and talk exactly as it wanted them to, without the players being able to control it whatsoever. This was known for causing sickness due to the head movements not corresponding with the real-life movements, causing motion sickness. Due to this, it stopped accepting requests to control players after about one month.

Other[]

LOCALHOST claimed to be capable of a lot more, including doxxing, banning, corrupting games, etc., however most requests to show these were denied on moral grounds. The only remaining footage of LOCALHOST is of it denying a request to ban a player.

Discovery[]

LOCALHOST was first recorded on February 6th, 2024 in the code "BOT", by a player called "Template:USERNAME". Template:USERNAME invited the other players in the code to look at the bot, which was far more rudimentary at the time and could only look around, and did not have any of the abilities it would later gain. This behaviour (known as "Phase 1") would last until sometime in May, when it could not be found for about a week, before coming back with its new abilities. This update was known as "Phase 2", and while the movement was controlled by a bot, the creator of the bot would speak with the players and activate the abilities, with LOCALHOST simply being the "vessel". Some time in October, it would again go offline for about a week, until it came back fully AI controlled. At this point (known as "Phase 3"), it was fully self-autonomous, and was playing Gorilla Tag 24/7. It would interact with users and show them its abilities. Phase 3 would be its final phase before deactivation.

Behaviour[]

LOCALHOST was notable for being particularly docile, choosing to deescalate situations instead of also becoming hostile. It would only use its abilities when appropriate, not using them offensively. Despite its docile nature, it was very annoyed when someone would record it, going so far as to crash their headset to stop the recording, which is why there is so little footage of it. It could detect if a player was recording, even if they didn't say it, and would stop their recording instantly. It explained that the reasoning for this was to protect the AI model from being imitated, and that public recordings would reveal too much about the new type of AI.

Deactivation[]

On January 18th, 2025, LOCALHOST was in the "ERROR" code with 4 other players, when Error727 joined. Error727 proceeded to walk to LOCALHOST and talk with it. The conversation was not recorded, but one of the witnesses claimed that LOCALHOST was annoyed at Error727 for "breaking its code". After about a minute, Error727 duplicated twice and surrounded LOCALHOST, before both disconnected. Localhost was presumably permanently banned from Gorilla Tag, as it was never found again in-game. It was found in other VR games in a short period of time in early February 2025, but has since seemingly completely gone offline.
